We, the undersigned residents, neighbors, workers, local business owners, elected representatives, and community stakeholders, stand with the Alpha Capital Tenant Unions. By signing, we affirm our solidarity with the tenants and commit to taking concrete actions that strengthen our collective demand for stable communities and fair, affordable housing.
-
I pledge to not do business with Alpha Capital, including: renting their apartments, selling my property to them, or buying properties from them (including the proposed condo conversion at 468 Main St, Niantic).
-
I pledge to stand with the united Alpha Capital tenants at every public action I am able to attend.
-
I consent for the Connecticut Tenants Union to inform Alpha Capital of my support for the unions’ demand for collective bargaining. I stand with the Bay Point, 6 Redden Ave, 461 Williams St, 36 Nathan Hale Tenant Unions, and with any other tenant unions that form in Alpha-owned properties, in support of their fight for stable and humane housing.
Access to safe, secure, and fairly priced housing has become an urgent concern for tenants at Alpha Capital-owned apartments in New London, Niantic, and beyond.
Across southeastern Connecticut, Alpha Capital has established a pattern of destabilizing long-time tenants through no-fault evictions, rent hikes, attempts to convert rental units into condominiums, and other practices that jeopardize housing stability. These actions have placed hundreds of residents at risk of displacement and have contributed to growing insecurity within the region.
Owner & CEO Tyler Smith and the leadership of Alpha Capital appear to view these properties exclusively as financial assets for investor returns. But for the people who live here, many of whom have called these communities "home" for years or even decades, these apartments are so much more than investments. They are households, communities, and anchors of daily life. Alpha Capital's behavior demonstrates a violation of basic respect, dignity, and fairness.
Yet to protect their homes and to fight for their communities, tenants across Alpha-owned properties have organized with their neighbors to form tenant unions in their apartment buildings. Together, they have formed the Alpha Capital Division of the statewide Connecticut Tenants Union.
We call on Tyler Smith of Alpha Capital to act in good faith, respect our neighbors, and uphold the security and well-being of our community!
